KidKupz Joins Super Saturday 12 for Ovarian Cancer Research Fund

Posted June 30th, 2009 by Jill Addeo | No Comments »

The mission of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund is to fund research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer.

In support of their mission, they help patients and their loved ones understand the disease and its treatment, and provide outreach programs to raise public awareness.

On August 1, 2009, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s 12th annual Super Saturday will take place at Nova’s Ark Project in Water Mill. Hosted again by Donna Karan, Ariel Foxman, InStyle, Kelly Ripa and Blake Lively, Super Saturday 12 will feature its famous one-of-a-kind designer garage sale, kids’ carnival, gourmet dining and exciting activities galore.

This year, KidKupz has donated product to be included in the goodie bags at this very special fundraising event. For those of us who can’t make it out to the Hamptons to shop til we drop, tune in to QVC on August 1st to take part in the action on QVC Presents Super Saturday Live where you will be able to shop right along with the celebs and support an amazing cause!

We Could All Use a Nap…

Posted June 22nd, 2009 by Jill Addeo | No Comments »

I recently read this article on USNews.com which touches on one of my strong parental beliefs that most kids (and adults) are totally over-programmed. I realize that this study was conducted with very young children and compared those who nap with those who don’t , but the findings of the study clearly relate to what goes on in later years.

I live in Manhattan where there is no limit to the activities available to children, even to babies as young as 3 months old.  We’ve all read or been told that kids need “down time” but as parents, we often secretly fear that our children aren’t being exposed to as many experiences as the children of our peers. Whether it be sports, music lessons, art classes, tutors etc., it’s just hard to keep up.

Maybe the excuse is that if your child isn’t engaged in an after school or weekend activity, they’ll likely just sit in front of the TV or the X Box. This is a particular concern for parents of city kids who don’t have a  backyard to run in or a basketball hoop in the driveway. That little voice inside you knows that when you were a kid, you were forced to find ways to keep yourself entertained and engaged.. My little voice firmly believes that there are tremendous benefits to that. But yet still, we struggle to keep up.

So, while I don’t believe that children should be coming home from their day in 4th grade and taking a nap before starting their homework, I do believe that they absolutely need time to decompress. I would be curious to see a similar study comparing kids who are involved in moderate extra curricular activities versus those who are scheduled to the hilt. Something tells me that there would indeed be differences in their levels of anxiety, depression and hyperactivity, too.

My goal for now is to refrain from trying to keep up with the Joneses and instead, strive to be the best Addeos we can be. I’ll keep you posted on our progress.

Getting “Beyond the Mommy Blogger”

Posted June 8th, 2009 by Jill Addeo | No Comments »

Recently I enjoyed reading a great article at MediaPost Publications. Entitled “Beyond the Mommy Blogger“, it caught my eye. As a fellow “mommy blogger”, I really enjoyed how the article took the emphasis off blogging and opened the door for other exciting ways to communicate like video, radio and podcasts. It also spoke to the way marketers are focusing on bloggers and forgetting about moms (and ultimately parents) who are not blogging but are listening to the radio or downloading podcasts for their iPhones. Folks are conversing through many different mediums and as communicators, we need to consider each one as important as the next.

At KidKupz, we are working diligently on a full scale social media marketing plan so that we make it easy for you to talk to us – about KidKupz, about your kid’s health…whatever is on your mind. We look forward to connecting with you!
