Tips to Improve Your Photos with Santa

It’s that time again; time to brave the mall so that you can get that coveted shot of your smiling child on Santa’s lap. I’ve provided a few helpful tips to make the day a little easier, but I can’t stress enough that your photographer knows what he or she is doing. So, if you want a really good shot, let them do what they do best.

  • If you are having your photo taken at a mall or shopping center, show up early in the season. The closer you get to Christmas, the longer the lines are going to be. It will help keep your child from stressing while waiting in line.
  • Trust your photographer. While you know your child well, your photographer takes hundreds of photos of kids everyday. Trust in their judgment and direction.
  • Consider dressing your child in something that stands out against Santa’s red suit – like green, gold or white.
  • If your child is apprehensive about sitting on Santa’s lap, consider sitting next to Santa with your child on your lap. Or ask if the photographer has an ottoman or chair for your child.
  • If your child cries – so be it. Some kids are super apprehensive and let’s face it, it could be a terrifying experience for them. Don’t get angry with your child. Twenty years from now, you and your child will have a good laugh.

So remember, photos with Santa should be fun for your child. And if they hate it – that’s fine. There’s always next year.
